Mont agung is active, tourism in risky
Head of Data and Information Center of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho praised the people of Bali, especially the people near Mount Agung related to their disaster response.
"The social capital and gotong royong of Balinese people is extraordinary," Sutopo said at BNPB office, Jakarta, Monday (25th of septembre 2017).
According to Sutopo, the Balinese people interpret the eruption of Mount Agung as a celebration of the Mountain. They believed that it was time they had to get out of the area around the mountain.
"People interpret the eruption of Mount Agung was having action to step aside for a moment," he said.
Not only that, the concept of "sister village" is also applied to the people of Bali. This concept is done when the status of Mount Agung is raised to be alert.
Thousands of people immediately evacuate and occupy the point bearers prepared by the government, as well as community self-help.

Without being asked, people who are not affected by the eruption of Mount Agung provide voluntary assistance. Assistance that among others, the place of refuge, livestock, food aid, kitchen and more.
"The appreciation of the Balinese people around Gunung Agung, when they are upheld their status, it is very difficult to evacuate people," said Sutopo.
What is applied by the Balinese, said Sutopo, is similar to what Japanese people do when a natural disaster strikes.
"It's a proud thing, almost similar to Japan, in Japan 80 percent of the people when disaster strikes their own needs," Sutopo said.
"The community is self-sufficient for 72 hours or three days, but the government's aid will come but it will take time, now it happens in Bali," he said.
Sutopo added that the concept of sister village is a community-based disaster management program that has been implemented around Mount Merapi in Central Java, Kelud Mountain, East Java and Gunung Agung Bali.
"This concept is an inter-village cooperation that is prone to eruption disaster as the origin of refugees with rural origin outside disaster prone areas or affected by eruption as a shelter," said Sutopo.
